Did you know that Tinsman Bros., Inc. is the oldest lumberyard still in operation in the USA?

Founded in 1785, the historic Lumberville landmark has weathered floods, hurricanes, wars and economic crises.  Bill and Tom Tinsman are 5th generation to carry on the family business.  Each are proud to have sons, Will and TJ respectively, who are the 6th generation to take leadership roles in the company.

The lumber yard is nestled in a quaint pocket of Solebury township along the Delaware canal and the Paunacussing Creek with barns rich in history strewn throughout the the lush landscape.

In the 1890's, this old mill was in full operation.  The dam on the Paunacussing Creek aided in diverting water flow to the mill where it turned water wheels which powered the saws for the sawmill.  Freshly milled lumber was transported by horse and wagon via bridge over the Delaware River to the railroad depot in Raven Rock.  There, the lumbermen loaded the railroad's flat cars for delivery throughout the quickly growing industrialized country.

In 1955, the great flood destroyed the damn.  As a result, the sawmill portion of the lumber yard became and remains inactive.   Prior to the flood, the lumberyard's office and large molding barn was located in our lower yards along River Road.  The office was moved to another location in our upper yard for safety and the molding barn has been "relocated" alongside!

Today, Tinsman's works with Lumber and Building Material manufacturer's around the country to bring you the finest materials available and can still deliver to you, though now with a truck and driver!
